Por ejemplo, "I went to the store" se convierte en "I went to the store yesterday" o "I went to the store last week."

Ejemplo

Ejemplo: I was reading a book yesterday.

Ejercicios

While I ___ (walk) home, it started to rain.

He ___ (break) his leg while he was skiing.

Conditionals: Zero, First & Second

Zero Conditional (Condicional cero)

Estructura: If + Present Simple, Present Simple

If (condición)ResultadoTraducción
If you heat water to 100°C,it boils.Si calientas agua a 100°C, hierve.
If you mix red and blue, you get purple.Si mezclas rojo y azul, obtienes morado.
If it rains, the ground gets wet.Si llueve, el suelo se moja.
If plants don't get water, they die.Si las plantas no reciben agua, mueren.
📌 Recuerda

First Conditional (Primer condicional)

Estructura: If + Present Simple, will + verbo base

If (condición)ResultadoTraducción
If it rains tomorrow,I will stay at home. / I'll stay at home.Si llueve mañana, me quedaré en casa.
If you study hard, you will pass the exam.Si estudias mucho, aprobarás el examen.
If she doesn't hurry, she will be late.Si no se da prisa, llegará tarde.
If we save money,we will buy a new computer.Si ahorramos dinero, compraremos un ordenador.
⚠️ Importante
En la parte de if, usamos Present Simple (NO will):
• ✅ If it rains, I'll stay home.
• ❌ If it will rain, I'll stay home.

Second Conditional (Segundo condicional)

Estructura: If + Past Simple, would + verbo base

If (condición imaginaria)ResultadoTraducción
If I had a million euros,I would buy a big house.
If I were you,I would study more.Si yo fuera tú, estudiaría más.
If she spoke Chinese, she would get that job.Si ella hablara chino, conseguiría ese trabajo.
If we lived in London,we would speak English every day.

• If I were rich... (no «was»)
• If she were here...

Comparación de los tres condicionales

TipoEstructuraUsoProbabilidad
ZeroIf + Present, PresentHechos / verdades100% (siempre)
FirstIf + Present, will + basePosible / probable50-90% (puede pasar)
SecondIf + Past, would + baseImaginario / improbable0-10% (poco probable)
📘 Ejemplo
Zero: If you heat ice, it melts. (Verdad universal.)
First: If it rains tomorrow, I'll take an umbrella. (Posible.)
Second: If I won the lottery, I would travel the world. (Imaginario.)

📘 Ejemplo
If it rains, I'll stay home. (con coma)
I'll stay home if it rains. (sin coma)
📖 Reading comprehension
Read and identify the conditionals:

Science is full of conditionals! If you mix vinegar and baking soda, it produces carbón dioxide gas. If you drop something, it falls because of gravity. These are facts that always happen.

But what about the future? If scientists continue their research, they will probably find a cure for many diseases. If we reduce pollution, the planet will be healthier. If governments invest in education, people will have better opportunities.

And what about imaginary situations? If I were a scientist, I would try to solve climate change. If humans could fly, we wouldn't need aeroplanes. If there were no gravity, everything would float in the air!
