Extension and Summary: Reading Comprehension
Exercises- Read a longer text (1 page) and write: a) Summary (5 sentences). b) 5 new vocabulary items with definitions. c) Your opinion about the text.
- Compare two texts on the same topic. How are they similar? How are they different?
- Critical reading: identify bias or opinion in a news article. What words show the writer's opinion?
- Read an extract from a graded reader and write 10 comprehension questions (5 literal, 5 inferential).
- Choose a text in English online. Read it and present a 2-minute oral summary to the class.
Summary- Skimming: quick reading for the general idea (titles, first/last lines).
- Scanning: looking for specific information (dates, names, numbers).
- Inference: working out meaning from clues, not stated directly.
- Context clues: using surrounding words to guess unknown vocabulary.
- Always answer in full sentences and justify with evidence from the text.
