Extension and Summary: Present Tenses
Exercises- Explain the difference: "I read books" vs. "I am reading a book" vs. "I have read 10 books this year."
- Some verbs are NOT usually used in the continuous form (state verbs). List 8 state verbs and write a sentence with each.
- Present Perfect vs. Past Simple: Explain when to use each. Complete: a) I ___ (see) that film last night. b) I ___ (see) that film three times.
- Write an email to a pen pal (10 sentences) telling them about your life, using all three present tenses.
- Translate to English: a) Vivo aquí desde 2018. b) Ahora mismo estoy estudiando. c) Nunca he viajado a Japón.
Summary- Present Simple: habits, routines, facts. Form: I play / She plays. Clues: always, every day, usually.
- Present Continuous: now, temporary. Form: am/is/are + -ing. Clues: now, at the moment, this week.
- Present Perfect: experience, recent, unfinished. Form: have/has + past participle. Clues: ever, never, already, yet, just, for, since.
- State verbs (know, like, want, believe, understand) do NOT use continuous forms.
- FOR + period (for 3 years). SINCE + point in time (since Monday).
