Extension and Summary: Past Tenses
Exercises- Past Simple vs. Present Perfect: Explain with examples. "I went to London last year." vs. "I have been to London."
- Write a ghost story (10 sentences) using Past Simple, Past Continuous, and "suddenly".
- Would vs. Used to: Explain the difference. Why can we say "I used to be short" but NOT "I would be short"?
- Describe your life 5 years ago vs. now. Use "used to" for the past and present tenses for now.
- Narrate a film plot in the past tense (8-10 sentences) using varied past forms.
Summary- Past Simple: completed actions. Form: verb+ed (regular) or 2nd column (irregular). Clues: yesterday, last week, ago.
- Past Continuous: actions in progress in the past. Form: was/were + -ing. Clues: while, at that moment.
- When + Past Simple (short action). While + Past Continuous (long action).
- Used to + infinitive: past habits or states no longer true.
- Would + infinitive: repeated past actions (NOT states).
