Strategy: Skimming
Read quickly to get the general idea. Example: Read this text in 30 seconds. What is it about?
"A day at the beach. Last Sunday, the Smith family went to the beach. It was sunny and hot. The children swam in the sea and built sandcastles. At lunchtime, they all had a picnic on the sand."
Answer: The text is about a family's trip to the beach on a sunny day. They swam, built sandcastles, and had a picnic. Skimming means reading titles, first sentences, and key words without reading every word.
