Worked example
Example 1: Write an email to a friend about your weekend.
Answer:
Subject: My weekend!
Hi Emma,
How are you? I had a great weekend! On Saturday, I went to the beach with my family. We swam in the sea and ate ice cream. On Sunday, I did my homework and played video games.
What did you do? Write back soon!

Note the structure: greeting, opening question, main content, closing question, sign-off.
Worked example
Example 2: Write a postcard from a holiday.
Answer:
Dear Tom,
I am having a wonderful time in Barcelona! The weather is sunny and hot. Yesterday, we visited the Sagrada Familia - it was amazing! Today, we are going to the beach. I wish you were here!

A postcard is short, uses Present Continuous (what you are doing now) and Past Simple (what you did).
Worked example
Example 3: What are the main differences between an email and a postcard?
Answer: An email can be longer, has a subject line, and is sent electronically. A postcard is short (limited space), is sent by post, and usually describes a holiday. Both have a greeting, main body and sign-off.
Exercises- Write the correct greeting for: a friend (Hi/Dear), a teacher (Dear Mr/Mrs), an unknown person (Dear Sir/Madam).
- Write 5 useful opening sentences for an email to a friend.
- Write an email to your friend about your last birthday party (6-8 sentences).
- Write a postcard from a real or imaginary holiday (5-6 sentences).
- Put these parts of an email in order: sign-off, greeting, main body, opening question.
- Write 5 ways to end an email: Love, See you, ...
- Correct this email: "hello sarah how are you i went to the park it was fun bye"
- Write a reply to this email: "Hi! I am going to visit Spain next month. What should I see?"
- Write a postcard to your English teacher from an imaginary trip to London.
- Write an email inviting a friend to your birthday party. Include: date, time, place, activities.
